China (Guangdong) - Canada (Alberta) Economic Cooperation Roundtable Successfully Held at the Department

  In order to promote the pragmatic exchange between Guangdong and Alberta, Canada, and promote the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the Department of Commerce of Guangdong Province and the Alberta Department of Economic Development and Trade, On May 11th, the "China (Guangdong) - Canada (Alberta) Economic Cooperation Roundtable" was jointly hosted by the two parties at the Department. Nearly 50 representatives attended the roundtable, including Mr. Deron Bilous, Minister of Alberta Department of Economic Development and Trade, Alberta's government and trade & investment delegation, Mr. Chen Yuehua, Deputy Director-General of the Department and heads of related divisions, as well as representatives from enterprises, business associations and research institutes in investment abroad, e-commerce and consumption products and in eight  fields including logistics, advanced manufacturing, environmental protection technology, engineering and construction, food, tourism and education industry.     

  Deputy Director-General Chen Yuehua delivered a welcome remarks at the roundtable and welcomed Minister Deron Bilous's fourth visit to Guangdong. He expressed his gratitude to Deron Bilous for his efforts in attaching importance to the economic and trade cooperation with Guangdong and leading the Alberta trade and investment delegation to visit Guangdong. Taking this opportunity, Mr. Chen comprehensively introduced the development of Guangdong's economy from the aspects of economic development, foreign trade and two-way investments. He pointed out that as the forerunner of China's Reform and Opening up, Guangdong Province is also a major economic province and a major foreign trade province. Since the Reform and Opening up, especially since the 18th CPC National Congress, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of CPC with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, Guangdong's economic and social development has made remarkable achievements.     

  He said that Guangdong has a strong demand and favorable conditions for cooperating with Alberta. It is hoped that the two sides could strengthen cooperation in the following three aspects: firstly, making good use of the friendly relationship established between Guangdong and Alberta, as well as the MOU signed by the Department and Alberta Department of Economic Development and Trade to enhance the communication and cooperation between the economic and trade government departments and business associations of the two sides; secondly, giving full play to the role of the economic and trade offices of Guangdong province in North America (Los Angeles) and the relevant trade and business institutions of Canada in Guangdong; thirdly, using Guangdong’s major economic and trade conferences to promote investment and trade between the two sides.     

  Minister Deron Bilous said that Guangdong was one of Alberta's most important bilateral investment and trading partners. The two sides have potential for cooperation in many fields such as energy, agriculture, forestry, science and technology, environmental protection and tourism. The Canada side hoped to strengthen economic and trade exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and to promote efficient cooperation between the two sides, enhancing friendship and seeking common development.     

  At the roundtable, the representatives of the participating companies introduced themselves one by one, and introduced their fields, business strengths and development goals, and expressed their strong hope for further cooperation and exchange. Finally, the representatives conducted extensive communication and exchanged ideas on cooperation.
